The Martin-Bazemore House is located in Bertie County in the community of Woodville. The home was built in the mid to late 18th century, is the oldest structure in the Woodville Rural Historical District and is one of the oldest homes in Bertie County. The side gable, five bay frame home has a front porch and gable-end chimney. The property has retained a great deal of its original detailing including some of the original beaded siding, one surviving double shouldered chimney, molded cornice on the porch, heart of pine flooring, flat paneled wainscot, paneled doors, three part molded surrounds and four 9 over 6 windows. Originally the home had a hall and parlor plan and later, the west parlor was moved and attached creating a center hall plan. During the early 20th century, a shed and breezeway were constructed connecting the detached kitchen. Historic Woodville, Inc. has done a great deal of work to rehabilitate this property including a new roof, a new foundation, chimney repair, porch repair, front porch balustrade restoration, siding repair, exterior painting and new plantings and privacy fence. There is updated electrical service and there is a new half bath in place. The front two rooms and entrance hall have been faithfully restored with attention to detail. The remainder of the home is ready for a new owner to complete as they wish. The Martin-Bazemore House is currently listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is eligible for tax credits.
