Brookland Plantation on Edisto Island boast historic features listed on the National Register of Historic Places and substantial frontage on Shingle Creek . It contains diverse habitats including maritime forest, saltwater marsh, sandy areas, orchards, evergreen upland forest, and open water. The Greek Revival house was built circa 1803 and totally restored in 2004. During its most recent renovation the house was painted a pluff mud color to blend into the tree trunks and surroundiing landscape. The views include spectacular marsh vistas, an open pecan grove, a pond and numerous live oaks draped in Spanish moss. The plantation's traditional uses are protected under a conservation easement with the Low Country Open Land Trust.
