The ranch is located at the northern edge of the Edwards Plateau near the town of Robert Lee, Texas, and is situated about 1 mile from the Colorado River. The property is 76 miles Southwest of Abilene, Texas and 30 miles North of San Angelo, Texas. The main entrance to the Ranch is about 4 miles from the center of Robert Lee. Distance to the ranch from Fort Worth is 224 miles with an estimated travel time of 3 1/2 hour

This beautiful property has 9 miles of high fence, 4 miles of interior fence and some all-weather caliche roads. You will always find an abundance of wildlife on the 30+ acres of food plots throughout the property. Additional food plots could be developed on the property as well. The owners of the ranch have added 20 hunting blinds, 13 corn feeders and 8 protein feeders that help sustain the deer, quail, turkey and exotics populations on the ranch. In addition, the ranch has a TD Smith designed rifle range with targets up to 670 yards with space to increase this to 1000 yards.

The ranch has underground waterlines that move water from the 2 water wells on the property, and the new owner could add two additional wells. Scattered throughout the property are 3 stock tanks that also provide water for the rich wildlife populations on the ranch. The current owner reports that throughout the drought the majority of the stock tanks never went dry.

The owners of the ranch retained a wildlife biologist in 1995, and the property has been under a strict game management plan designed by Texas Parks and Wildlife and the Natural Resources Conservation Service since the time it was purchased. The property is rich in wildlife and is under the MLD Level III program, which allows for the most flexible seasons and bag limits. Current deer surveys estimate about 300 native Whitetail deer, Rio Grande turkey,Bobwhite and Blue Quail, Javelina, Ducks and has excellent Dove hunting. The current owners have been very strict with the management plan and only harvest 2-3 trophy bucks per year. The owners continue to focus their attention to the culling of management bucks and does in line with their management program and keeping a current buck to doe ratio of 1:1.2. This management has allowed for the increase of the trophy quality, and the reduction of bad genetics. Hunting on Lone Mountain Ranch is very exciting because of the quality and the number of deer that you will see each time you sit. Trophy Whitetail bucks on the ranch will score in the high 160's without protein supplementation.

In addition to the native wildlife, the ranch is also home to three species of exotics. Trophy Axis deer, Blackbuck and Fallow deer make for a very challenging hunting experience with their elusiveness and ghostly movement through the brush on the ranch.

The property has one of the largest Bobwhite and Blue Quail populations per acre in Coke County. In 2002 the owners of the ranch formed a relationship with the Rolling Plains Quail Research Institute to place an additional focus to sustaining and growing the excellent quail numbers that are on the ranch. This quail management plan includes the development of adequate food supplies, water, and reasonable brush protection. As a result of this continued management plan that includes brush management and re-seeding, the ranch has reestablished native grasses, food sources and brush shelters that create cover for the birds. The ranch has been host to Dale Rollins Quail Appreciation Day and has 8-10 quail call stations that have been used for research by his students. Lone Mountain is a quail hunters paradise!

The range conditions on this ranch are special with a good mixture of brush, food plots, canyons, creeks and draws. The terrain possesses some of the most beautiful topography in the area with elevation changes on the ranch from 1,640 ft. up to 2,425 ft. within its boundaries. The tree cover is diverse with the predominate species consisting of Mesquite, Oak, Ash and Soapberry. A brush management plan was established in 1997 and includes the removal of cedar, some mesquite, burns and reseeding which has created exceptional wildlife cover, and food sources throughout the property. The current owner estimates the clearing of over 2,200 + acres of cedar since the plan began. They have done extensive work clearing fields for planting food plots and improving the grass conditions for wildlife and livestock. Currently the ranch turns 50 head of cattle twice per year and holds to a strict grazing plan to protect the wildlife habitat. This cow/calf operation provides an income of $70,000/yr. The current owners would be interested in continuing the cattle operation and would consider a lease with the new owner.
