The Farm has all the ingredients necessary to attract and hold healthy populations of deer, turkey, and other south Alabama wildlife. There are over 60 acres of woods which provide plenty of food and cover. Hunter Creek, a year-round, cool water creek with a sandy bottom, enters on the west and exits to the south providing over 1,900 of good running water. Smaller, seasonal creeks empty into Hunter Creek in some parts of the farm creating nice travel corridors between fields for the deer. The woods are a good mix of mast-producing hardwoods and some pine trees. There are large numbers of white and red oaks spread throughout the farm, especially on the edges of the crop land. The West 40 has an open understory that is both easy to walk and ideal for setting up some tree stands or ground blinds. Turkeys love this combination of open fields for eating and strutting, the tall woods for roosting and eating acorns, and the cool water to drink. There is also a four-acre stand of planted pines in the north.

The well-drained, sandy loam soil, is ideal for growing cotton, peanuts, corn, or soybeans (corn was grown in 2016). After the crops are harvested in the fall, these fields provide the perfect opportunity to plant some large food plots for the winter. If you dont want to do the farming yourself, you can lease the farm land for additional income. You could also convert the farm land to pasture and raise some animals, put into hay production, or plant trees. With almost 40 acres of active farmland, you could do any combination of the above.

The old home site is not included with the sale but deserves mention. In March 2003, the Alabama Historical Commission Historical added the home site to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and heritage. Named for the famous Rev. Hillary James (Brown) Hawkins, DD., the original owner, the farm has been in the family for three generations. Among his many accomplishments, Dr. Hawkins produced Conecuh Countys first bale of cotton in 1953.

Located about four miles west of I-65 (less than 10 minutes), the farm is easily accessible and convenient but still has that peaceful, in the country feel.
