This home was built in 1872 and over the past 8 years has been gradually restored. The owners both worked and raised three kids in this 5 bedroom, 3 full bath home. This house went from a mess to a beautiful, comfortable home and also features two living room areas, dining room, laundry room, huge attic, and a working fireplace. The owner is working to refinish the entry hall and stairway and one of the bathrooms as well as completing painting the outside rear of the house. The kitchen has been remodeled with all new appliances, cabinets, granite countertops, plus a large pantry. Approximately six tons of central air-conditioning, plus heat, have been added along with attic insulation. THIS HOME HAS BEEN SPRAYED REGULARLY FOR TERMITES EVERY YEAR. Additional amenities are: the home was leveled, new kitchen, new rewiring and plumbing, all new sewer lines, and new re-decking for both front porches. New gutters have been added and all of the windows have been redone. This home sports big shade trees both in front and back yards and the property is bordered by a gravel alley way on one side and in back. It has city owned concrete sidewalks in front plus a concrete sidewalk to the concrete steps of the porch. In the back of the home the owner has added a large outdoor patio. The back yard is completely fenced and features an antique barn and workshop. This home has many unique features that are too many to list.
Now for some history this home was originally the first train depot in Cuero where they sold tickets for train travelers. History say that "John Wesley Hardin", the famous outlaw and shootist, most likely made his presence there. The structure was moved away from the train tracks around the turn of the century to its present location and became a residence. During the 40s the upstairs bedrooms were rented to tenants. The home features a plaque from the National Register of Historic Places.
This home in its present condition was appraised the week of April 27th for $220,000, the asking price. The owners are selling the home to serve as missionaries.
