The caretaker currently lives in the modular home, but this home could serve as extra lodging. There are several other outbuildings including a chicken coop, tractor shed, Century barn, and loafing shed. Swanson Reservoir State Recreation Area is only a 1/2 mile East of the property. This recreation area consists of a 5,000 acre lake and 4,000 acres of land. There is fishing, boating, camping, concessions and hunting, in particular waterfowl and pheasant, around the lake. A note from the Seller Growing up in the 1960s and 70s things were different. You could stop at a farmhouse and ask if you could hunt. By the mid 1980 s that looked like it was going away. Farms were getting larger and old original farmsteads were going vacant. Friends from Grand Island liked the hunting and fishing in Southwest Nebraska, and it was a halfway spot between our hometown to Denver. We never envisioned a near 35 year run of fun hunting and fishing and enjoying the farmstead. Elm Creek Farm evolved as importantly as a gathering place for multiple generations of family, friends and visitors who all enjoyed unique experiences. Target shooting, water sports, quiet escapes, and annual hunts steeped in traditions. Summer trips with ATV and riding horses along with boating, swimming and fishing at the lake. We all loved the quiet and historic farmhouse with the bunk room, filled with noisy kids or snoring hunters. Fresh farm eggs, honey, garden produce and fruit from the orchard have enhanced our family dinners at the farm. Cigars and stories by the fire pit or on the screen porch closed out many evenings. Over the years we have updated the farmhouse but kept its original 1900 charm. We added two shelter belts and over 1,300 trees to enhance the habitat. Two windmills feed overflow ponds to attract turkey, deer, and doves. With so many adjacent acres in public hunting and habitat, you can hunt all day along the river or on close by habitat and food plots. The caretaker lives in the modular home and would prefer to stay and live on site. The property is 30 minutes from McCook, NE airport. Once on Elm Creek Farm, you will feel apart from the rest of the world. Trenton is just two miles East and offers fuel, grocers, a cafe, and bars. We have had a great run and made a lifetime of friends. Our hope is a new family or group of friends can start building their memories here.
