The topography of the r...
The topography of the ranch is gently rolling which produces beautiful views from the higher elevations. The predominate tree species are Post Oak, Blackjack Oak, and Hickory. Most of the range is native pasture with a good variety of grasses and forbs. There is also about 80 acres of improved pasture that is predominately Love grass. The owners of this ranch have been good stewards of the land, through their practices of prescribed fire, brush management, erosion control and proper stocking rates the ranch is in great condition. The ranch has a good diversity of wildlife habitat including brush cover, edge, and open space. Wildlife and Water
With the combination of mast producing trees, browse and native forbs for forage Kimbell's Rubottom Ranch is a wildlife buffet. The brushy draws and oak motts provide excellent cover for Whitetail deer and turkey. The native pasture not only provides good quality forage but it also provides nesting cover for both the wild turkey and Bobwhite quail. Feral hogs can also be found on the ranch. There are open areas that suit the long range rifle hunter and brushy areas that are more preferable to the close range bow hunter. There are two deep lakes on the property one is about 5.5 surface acres and the other is 2 surface acres. Several earthen stock tanks can be found throughout the property. Two water wells with submersible pumps help supply water for livestock, one of which has about a mile of piping to supply water to stock tanks. Improvements
There is electricity on the ranch providing power to the water wells. Working pens and chute that will handle several head are on the ranch for cattle operations. Ranch roads provide good access to all pastures of the ranch. Catch pools complete with overflows have been built at the head of the draws to minimize erosion. With fire guards in place and the use of prescribed fire the under story has been maintained to keep it easily accessible to both wildlife and hunter. All perimeter fencing is in good condition. Catch pool and reservoir dams were constructed with spillways to maintain the integrity of the dams. Rotational grazing practices have been used to negate overgrazing and habitat damage.
