History. The Luckenbach Ranch has been in the same family since 1909. It was named after Fritz Luckenbach Sr. and wife Anna, who moved from Fredericksburg and settled in old Menardville in 1888, when it was still part of the Old West.
Fritz was a blacksmith. He started a barbwire fence company when the ranchland in the area was open range. He then started a windmill company, and eventually opened Luckenbach Ford Motor Company in Menard.

Location. In one of the prettier areas of the Texas Hill Country, it is within 2 miles of Menard and 35 miles west of Mason. That puts it about 2.5 hours from Austin and 1 hour from San Angelo.
Terrain. The terrain is very scenic, with 140 feet of elevation change. The ranch is mostly wooded, primarily live oak and some shin oak, along with mesquite and juniper trees, and a few mature pecan trees. There are limestone bluffs, and elevations with beautiful homesites that have appealing distance views.
Improvements. The ranch will soon be fenced entirely, the east side fence will be new and the fence on the other sides is in fair to good condition. Electric power is in place in 2 locations.
Water. Multiple springs flow thousands of gallons of crystal clear water daily. The springs are active year round, except in very dry periods. The Jackson Hole is fed by the springs and it attracts game animals, birds and varmints. The water hole became widely known after a soldier who was stationed at old Ft. McKavett in the 1800s deserted and was caught there. In addition, there is an old water well and windmill that needs to be reworked.
Wildlife. The Luckenbach is very good game habitat. Whitetail deer are abundant, and the largest deer harvested for the year in the County has come off the ranch several times in recent years. Turkeys, dove, some waterfowl, and occasionally hogs can be hunted. Foxes and other natural predators inhabit this place as well.
Minerals. 100% of the Executive Rights and 33% of the royalties are available with an acceptable offer.
