Missouri River Country is a very distinct region in Northeastern Montana. Part of the Great Plains, it is home to grand open spaces, as well as some diverse landforms. It is a paradise for sportsmen, with its unspoiled land rich in antelope, whitetail and mule deer, elk, turkey and other game, as well as excellent fishing with an abundance of walleye, small-mouth bass and salmon. In addition, the area is home to several national wildlife refuges, including the Charles M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge, Medicine Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge and UL Bend National Wildlife Refuge. As with much of Eastern Montana, this area is also characterized by some prairie terrain as well.
The lush wetlands of the area were also home to dinosaurs millions of years ago; in fact, the most complete T-Rex skeleton in the world was found here in 1990. The area features fossils on display in several of the area's museums, including the Great Plains Dinosaur Museum.
