The Western region of New York has some of the best nature views in the state and is home to one of the world's most well-known attractions, Niagara Falls, which is the collective name for three waterfalls on the border of Canada and the United States.

Included in this area is Letchworth State Park. Within the park, there are three large waterfalls on the Genesee River and as many as 50 waterfalls found on tributaries that flow into it. The gorge formed by the river, is also referred to as the "Grand Canyon of the East". Niagara Falls flows through Niagara Falls State Park which is America's oldest state park.
The southwest area of this region is the Chautauqua-Allegheny which includes the three counties of Chautauqua County, Cattaraugus County, and Allegany County. This area offers Allegany State Park which is New York's largest state park. If you want to get away for a weekend and explore the lakes and Victorian villages then you should travel to Chautauqua-Allegheny.
