This is partly attributable to great genetics from the stocking of big Northern deer back in the 1950s, when few native Southern deer were present to “dilute” the Northern genetics. A culmination of extraordinary genetics with fertile soils, excellent native habitat, great bonus nutrition provided by abundant clover/chicory fields, year-round supplemental protein, and an age structure (which is able to be controlled with the high fence), allows Spring Creek to be one of the top Whitetail properties in the southeast. The majority of the large deer harvested in this area you never even hear about or see in the record books, because the landowners are very protective of their sources.Spring Creek has been intensely managed by the former owner beginning in 2003 until the current owner purchased in 2017 and wanted to produce south Georgia Boone and Crockett Whitetails. The current owner high-fenced the approximately 682 acres in 2017, and has been intensely managing for Boone and Crockett Whitetail. The age structure of the deer herd is currently reaching its full potential this year with numerous Boone and Crockett possibilities. There are no exotics and/or no imported genetics. These are true South Georgia giant Whitetails.LodgeThe lodge is 2,230 sq ft and built in 2005, consisting of 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with a log exterior. The living area with a vaulted ceiling and hardwood pine floors and beautiful pecky cypress interior walls adjoins a spacious dining room and recently renovated kitchen affording a spacious gathering for family and friends in front of the large stone fireplace. One of the three bedrooms is located upstairs providing numerous beds for friends and family with plenty of room for overnight lodging. The additional two bedrooms are located on the main floor, of which the master suite overlooks the lake. The newly-remodeled kitchen with commercial appliances makes cooking a joy. The screened porch overlooking the 2.5-acre lake makes for an enjoyable morning of sipping coffee and listening to turkeys gobble in the springtime, or for enjoying a glass of sweet tea while watching deer at the feeder on a fall afternoon.Recreational Facility/Additional Living SpaceThis additional living space and recreational area provides long hours of fun time playing ping pong, and is a great place to hang out for children, grandchildren or family and friends. You can also just relax in front of the large fireplace while viewing a big screen tv. This 1,400 sq ft recreational addition includes a kitchen area with granite countertops, stainless refrigerator and sink, as well as one bedroom with two queen-size beds, a full bath, laundry room, and a porch where you can sit and enjoy wildlife in the clover field. There is also a nice fire-pit where hunting stories can be shared just out back.LakesSpring Creek has a beautiful 11.5-acre lake and 2.5-acre lake; both lakes have been intensely managed by Wiregrass Ecological Associates for producing large bass. Numerous feeders, which keep the bream population booming, as well as other stocked forage fish, produce an abundant supply of food sources for the bass population.LocationSpring Creek is moments away from Lake Blackshear State Park for added recreational enjoyment, including boating, swimming, golfing, dining, fishing and more. With frontage along HWY 195, Spring Creek is conveniently located, is in close proximity to notable towns like Cordele and Albany and is less than three hours from Atlanta.Having known the prior owner and having managed and hunted on properties in close proximity to Spring Creek, this area produces some of the finest Whitetails in the southeast. The prior owner managed this property intensely for over a decade, mainly bow hunting, and had harvested some outstanding deer. The current owner, who absolutely loves raising and hunting mature Whitetails, decided to high fence the property to be able to grow bucks to the age structure with the goal of producing Boone and Crockett south Georgia bucks. The deer herd on Spring Creek now has the age structure to year after year consistently produce some of the highest quality bucks you will see in the southeast. No expense has been spared...from an exceptional Tecomate food plot program to a year-round protein feeding program, along with natural habitat, beautiful hardwood bottoms, and native understory browse in the pine timber stands. The diversity found at Spring Creek is truly exceptional. The mature hardwood creek bottoms with massive white oaks and water oaks would just make you pray for cold weather to be able to sit in a deer stand during hunting season. - Walter HatchettThe lake is in great shape. The ramp is in great shape and makes launching a boat very easy. > There's good structure distributed around the lake to provide cover for the bluegill. The natural alkalinity and hardness of the pond is high, which helps to support high productivity without the need for expensive additions of agricultural lime. We found good numbers of intermediate bluegill, which indicates that bass numbers are at a healthy level. This balance shows in the condition of the bass. The average relative weight of the bass we surveyed was 96%, which is extremely good, especially considering the timing of the survey was shortly after spawning. Had we surveyed prior to spawning, most or all of the bass would likely have been above 100%, which is exceptional. Threadfin shad were stocked spring 2021, which will provide additional forage for the bass. This lake is in a great position to continue to progress and should provide excellent fishing in the future. - Wiregrass Ecological Associates (lake management)As a previous owner of Spring Creek for almost 15 years, it has been exciting watching the progression of the wildlife and land management. Our four-and-a-half year old deer put on 40 lbs, and we grew 160 BC deer. The Harris family has taken the management to the next level producing several 170-plus deer. If I were only a younger man, I would take ownership of the place again. I sit here with envy and excitement for the next landowner. - Paul Heidrich, Former OwnerSpring Creek Plantation is one of the best small plantations I have ever stepped foot on in the entire Southeast! It’s very diverse habitat and large food plot acreage allows it to hunt much bigger than what it is. Oh, and did I mention big bucks! Lots of intensive management have been poured into this place which has produced multiple bucks over 170, many of which are still on the property. – Mark Newell, Tecomate Wildlife Biologist
