The lake is twenty miles long and seven miles wide and is well known for its forests of bald cypress trees and the bald eagles that nest in them. Slightly south of the Reelfoot Lake is a smaller lake, Lake Isom, which has year-round hunting, fishing, bird watching, canoeing, kayaking, and hiking.
